Equine Assisted Counseling

Reasons Equine Assisted Therapy May be for You.

Not interested in the traditional environment of a counseling office?

Do you need a new experience that facilitates self growth?

Just need a change “to move out our box”

Does nature help you feel more balanced?  Does it or help you clarify thoughts and feelings?

How Is It Different From Other Forms of Counseling?

Counseling is conducted outside in an arena or other horse friendly environment.  The counselor provides and directs therapeutic activities with the assisted presence of horses.

Therapeutic activities address concerns such as:                        Coping Skills

  • Self-esteem
  • Mood Management
  • Problem Solving
  • Increased Self-control
  • Communication Skills
  • Social and Life skills

Marci Brown Gilpin, Equine assisted therapist, plans, organizes, and directs therapy programs with horses for children, adolescents, college age, all family members, couples, and coworker teams. Like other forms of therapy, Marci customizes the content of a treatment program in accordance with a patient's capabilities, needs and interests, and assesses the progress of the patient.

The goal of Equine assisted therapy is to help people recover from or adjust to mental, physical, emotional, or social problems through recreational activities.

Equine assisted therapy sessions can also address cognitive and perceptual deficits. Psychosocial benefits such as building rapport, increasing self-esteem, motivation, and stress reduction can also result from treatment.
